46th FINISSAGE GATHERING: THREE PAINTER-POETS
Pedro Olaio Pai’s first official exhibition took place at the national level at PALCO COLLECTIVE. This performance-based event featured a poetry reading by Olaio-Pai, performed by members of the FFBB movement.
The exhibition opened in October 2023 and will remain on view until mid-April.
“Unconventional, outspoken, irreverent, almost anarchistic—that is Pedro Olaio.
Surrounded by his loyal friends, his dogs, and his cats, this is how he has spent the last years of his life. For, being true to himself, principled, and unwilling to tolerate lies and deceit, he has distanced himself from those who, claiming to be his friends, only sought to take advantage of him.
He turned down exhibitions, turned down perks, and turned down art galleries that saw him merely as a means to easy profit. He never conformed to the tastes and interests of others.
That is Pedro Olaio. But he is also one of the greatest impressionists of our time. No one captures the landscapes of the Alentejo better—with their plains stretching as far as the eye can see, their twilights, and their bark-stripped cork oaks, a blood-red hue. He is unique in his nocturnes. It is the stars that come to kiss, with their silver light, the waters of the lake; it is the moon that appears shyly among the clouds on a stormy night; it is the street of a seedy neighborhood, with its nocturnal characters, steeped in vice and misery.” Manifesto by Vasco Almeida Rego, Magistrate, to Pedro Olaio – Father.
